For lodging, if you don’t rough it at the state park, Pine Forest offers cottages that sleep two people for under $100, and the Comfort Inn is near the course. Be sure to have a meal at the Bastrop BBQ and Meat Market (512-321-7719) on Main Street, then go for desert at Lock’s Drug, one of Texas’ oldest before wandering around the downtown Colorado Riverwalk. If that isn’t enough, venture to downtown Smithville, TX and take in the character of that neat, oak-shaded town.
