Leon Valley has improved its facilities recently, with a new clubhouse, restaurant, and expanded pro shop. This 18-hole country course is out in the boonies, but worth the trip because of the interesting, and sometimes funky, layout. With water on only one hole, and only a few bunkers on the course, it plays easy. Holes 7 and 10 are par 4s that play under 300 yards, and the small greens make three-putts harder to come by.
Hole 16 stands out: a par 5 at almost 600 yards that generally plays into the prevailing wind. Some of the more difficult holes are 2, 9, and 11–all par 4s that play well over 400 yards.
Getting there : Located 45 miles south of Waco. On I-35 south, take Exit 294 and drive north on Hwy. 317 (Main St). Turn east on 24th Ave. and continue to the golf course entrance.
