Unlike Bandera, Boerne’s location on I-10 has sucked it into the urban sprawl of San Antonio. Despite this, “Burn-ee” still remains a peaceful old town that offers a world-class golf course and quick access to the depths of the Hill Country on either side of the interstate. The historic town square is more than charming, highlighted by the 1859 Kendall Inn and the Kendall County Courthouse. The Guadalupe River State Park is nearby, as well as the famous caves of Cascade Caverns and other attractions. And–more important for the golf fans–some consider Tapatio Springs one of the most awesome golf experiences in the state.

NOTES
Try the country-resort kitchen outside of town called the Guadalupe River Ranch (830-537-4837), and be sure to order yourself some s’mores by the outdoor fireplace for dessert. Another dining option is the Limestone Grille (830-249-9954) in the historic town square. You might not find a better meal in these parts, and their wine list is exhaustive.
