Consistently ranked as one of the top resort courses in the state, Tapatio Springs has three different combinations of outstanding Hill Country golf. The spectacular Ridge Course, added in 1999, now complements the Valley and Lakes courses.
The design of all three tracks ingeniously incorporates the rugged Hill Country terrain. Giant oaks line the fairways and the fabled Frederick Creek runs throughout the design. The most talked-about of the three nines is the newer, more difficult Ridge Course, which appears to be built into the cliffs of this rugged ranch country.
Many claim that the Ridge is the most unbelievable golf experience in the state, while others complain that it is a tricked-up, unfair test of golf for the average player. The tee boxes are elevated and the elevation changes are extreme. Thanks to problems caused by either water, trees, cliffs, or waste areas, you face the potential for lost balls on every hole. Fans of the blind golf shot will be pleased with this design, as there are numerous blind shots both off the tee and on the approaches. Use the tip sheet and follow their recommendations.
The elevated tee boxes provide awesome views, and it’s not uncommon to be hitting your tee shot from high above down into a valley loaded with herds of axis or whitetail deer. There are three par 3s on the Ridge, all of them exciting holes because of the elevated tee boxes.
