The town of Cibolo sits on FM 78 just northeast of San Antonio on the back road to Seguin, which is 16 miles east. Cibolo is Spanish for “buffalo” and the town’s namesake, Cibolo Creek, features very steep banks that reportedly served as the means for Indians to stampede buffalo over the side, disabling them for slaughter.
Cibolo has been sucked in by the growth of San Antonio and the developments along I-35. The area has grown dramatically since the 1980s and the ensuing housing developments have brought golf course construction along in the area. Two of these communities, the older Northcliff and brand-new Century Oaks, both help fulfill the demand for golf in this outlying area of the Alamo City.
