Eden
Elevation : 2,048
Population : 1,607
Eden is on the edge of the Hill Country, 40 miles east of San Angelo,
in the middle of some of Texas’ best ranchland. The surrounding
countryside is loaded with live oak, mesquite, pecan and prickly
pear, as well as cattle, sheep, mohair, antelope, and white-tail
deer. Concho County has the greatest sheep density of any Texas
county, and exotic Axis deer have proliferated on area ranches in
recent years. Eden is often ignored by passers-by because of its
small size, but with nearby Lake O.H. Ivie producing huge bass and
the opening of a brand new 9-hole golf course, Texas travelers are
have started to pay a little more attention to this friendly little
town.

NOTES
After golf grab a quick lunch to-go (try Dairy
Queen), then head north 22 miles to Paint Rock,
described as the largest single collection of pictographs in the
US. Take the tour boat up the Concho River and follow the foot trails
to the bluffs that feature the paintings.
