Franklin

Elevation : 450
Population : 1,337

Franklin is the seat of Robertson County, located north of College Station in the rolling hills that drain to the bottoms of the Brazos and Navasota Rivers. Robertson County has four towns and a population of only 16,000, but three of those towns have golf courses. Franklin is one of those towns where the business district didn’t boom around the town square; residences still flank one side. The golf course here is called the Oak Grove Country Club.

NOTES
Stay in Hearne at the Oak Tree Inn (979-279-5599), but before you go don’t miss The Lone Star Burger Bar (979-828-5000) in the courthouse section, which is open Fri-Sun. For exploring, drive four miles southeast of town on FM 2446 is the Mt. Pleasant Church cemetery. It’s significant for housing the grave of Confederate soldier Walter Williams, who outlived all other veterans, both North and South, of the Civil War.
