Located 90 miles west of Waco on US 84, Goldthwaite is the ranching and agricultural hub for Mills County. Like San Saba to the south, the production of wool, mohair, cattle, sheep, and pecans drives the economy of this quiet town of weathered rock. Indian fighting used to be prominent here in Comanche country, but those days faded with the coming of the railroad in 1885. To the south, the Colorado River offers good river fishing and the municipal golf course awaits the traveling hacker.

NOTES
The famous Regency Bridge was featured on the 2000 Texas Highways map. The Goldthwaite B & B can put you up for the night, and there’s an RV park for those who travel that way. Do Texas Pride BBQ for lunch and hit Trevino’s Fajita Junction for mouth-watering fajitas at dinner time.
