Hico

Elevation : 1,006
Population : 1,289

Traffic is light around Hico (with a long ‘i’) as you roll through dairy, pecan, and peanut farms. Nothing much here, just famous pies at the local cafe and a museum with documentation stating that the late, local resident Brushy Bill was actually Billy the Kid. The country club is semi-private, though, so make it a point to get out and experience the course if you’re driving through.

NOTES
Try the rustic Bout’ Time’ BBQ (254-796-4300) for hot links and trimmings at lunch time. In the evenings roll into Jersey Lillly’s (254-796-0999) for everything under the sun, including patio dining and entertainment. Weekenders should make reservations at the Flying “P” Lodge (254-796-4427) for game-bird hunting and sporting clays, which always go well with planned golf outings at the Bluebonnet Country Club.
