Kirrville
Elevation : 1,645
Population : 21,031
Surrounded by scenic green valleys, clear streams, and rugged live-oak-covered
hills, combined with perhaps the most ideal climate in the nation,
Kerrville has consistently been one of Texas’ most sought-after
Hill Country destinations. The city’s history dates back to
1869 when Captain Charles Schreiner established his merchandising
business and ranching operations here, eventually purchasing more
than 600,000 acres of land by 1900.
The pleasant setting attracts not only visitors, but an interesting
mix of affluent and somewhat international residents who give the
city a little more culture than you might expect out this way. In
fact, in the mid-1990s the Wall Street Journal listed Kerrville
as one of the wealthiest small towns in America. Fortunately for
the traveling golfer, that wealth has helped bring three outstanding
golf courses to this town of just 21,000 residents.
