The small community of Kyle, just south of Austin barely off of I-35, exists because a 19th Century railroad magnate decided there should be a station between Austin and San Marcos. And up until recently, this quaint little town has been able to avoid the growth of Austin and maintain its position as a nice little day-trip destination. Now the ranchlands covered in bluebonnets are undergoing transformation, and more people are coming to this part of the world. One of the reasons is Plum Creek Golf Course.

The Auction Oak, a unique place of historic business deals, is located inside Kyle on Sledge St. about two blocks south of Center St. The Kyle Hanging Tree is a few miles down Old Post Road on your left. Take your own cervezas and roll into nearby Buda, TX for chips and salsa at La Casa del Taco (512-295-6327).
