Taking US 183 out of Austin to the North leads you to the former cattle trail and current ranch town of Lampasas, with its broad streets, historic square, rock homes, and abundant water. The nearby Colorado and Lampasas Rivers offer ample outdoor recreation. Where the mineral springs still flow a half mile from the stone courthouse in Hancock Park, you’ll find the city’s only golf option.

Make your reservations at the historic Moses Hughes Ranch Bed and Breakfast (512-556-5923), set in the stone house built by the founder of Lampasas. Perk’s Coffee Bar (512-556-5704) has a little character worth investigating. On 3rd St. track down Medina’s Mexican Restaurant (512-556-8412) for mouth-watering enchiladas, or head down Hwy. 281 and find the Limestone Grill (512-556-5399).
