Marble Falls
Elevation : 764
Population : 5,656
Marble Falls is 47 miles northwest of Austin in the middle of the
Highland Lakes. Named for a spot on the Colorado River where waterfalls
poured over marble outcroppings, the picturesque community has always
been one of Texas’ most popular Hill Country destinations.
Horseshoe Bay is only minutes away with what will soon be four world-class
golf courses. That, combined with the fact that Blue Lake might
be the most beautiful 9-hole course in Texas, makes this area pure
golf paradise.

Notes
The traditional eating establishment here is the Bluebonnet
Cafe (830-693-2344), just north of the bridge on US 281.
The recommended side trip is the scenic route down 1431, where you
can take your lunch to the picnic area just north of town and stare
at Granite Mountain, a massive dome of pink and
red granite where the stone for the Texas Capitol was quarried.
This road offers spectacular scenery in every direction as it winds
and curves through the hills. Another scenic drive is down 2147
along the western shore of Lake Marble Falls
