Moody
Elevation : 783
Population : 14,000
Just 26 miles south of Waco and about 5 miles west of I-35, Moody
was originally established in 1852 as Perry, TX, then renamed in
honor of W.L. Moody, the director of the railroad that built through
the town. For those interested enough to wander a little further
than the normal gas stops along I-35, Moody offers a few buildings
with interesting architecture, one of the oldest drug stores in
Texas (1881 Moody Drug), and the 18-hole Greenbrier Golf Club.

Notes
You can grab a bite at Lucy’s Cafe
(254-853-9302) before you head to Texas’ first state park,
known as Mother Neff State Park, located on a shady
260-acre site on the Leon River. Unless you’re camping don’t
worry about lodging, as the wise plan involves heading back to Waco
or another small town with more appealing B&B accomodations.
