SWT’s course is a 9-hole executive track that dates back to the 1920s, when it was originally envisioned as a big-time resort. The San Marcos River is nearby, and many spring-fed streams impact the layout. Pecans and oaks line the fairways, so you’ll need to keep it straight.
The course opens with a basic par 4 at about 380 yards that is loaded with trees and bunkers. The creek comes into play on holes 2-4. Of the remaining holes, the long par 3 6th is probably the most challenging because of its 194-yard length.
Note No. 9, originally a 660-yard par 5 that has thankfully been cut in half due to safety concerns. The tee box used to be behind the road, creating havoc for passersby, but has now been moved in front of the road.
Other notes: Ask about the Trifecta tournament, held every Thursday at 5:30 PM.
Getting there : On Hwy. 21 in San Marcos.
