Leaving Round Rock to the north on US 79, first there is Hutto, then is Taylor–rival to Lockhart as the “BBQ Capital of Texas” and self-proclaimed “Barbecue Capital of the World.” Settled by Germans and Czechs in 1876, this spick-and-span town serves the bustling agricultural and manufacturing community. Historic homes line the wide streets and the city hosts its International Barbecue Cookoff each August at shaded Murphy Park.
