Allen
Elevation : 637
Population : 43,554
The railroad came through Allen in the 1880s, and the town was
named after former Texas attorney general Ebenezer Allen. The town
gained notoriety back when Denton badman Sam Bass committed the
state’s first train robbery in 1878.
Now Plano, Allen, and McKinney all seem to blur together, and from
a 1990 population of under 20,000 Allen is well on its way to 50,000
residents as Collin County continues to bear the burden of Dallas’
northward migration. Golf courses have popped up everywhere on this
stretch of I-75, and Allen has been part of that golf boom with
the Twin Creeks master-planned community and golf course.

Notes
For Tex-Mex, La Finca (972-747-5060) is
family-owned and authentic. And if your winnings from the round
at Twin Creeks are burning a hole in your pocket, the Allen
Outlet Mall, just north of Stacy Rd. on I-75, offers a
better selection of quality shops than most. Pick up some golf slacks
or business wear at the Polo outlet.
