Traveling east on I-30, take a left after Greenville and you’ll be heading up Texas 50 to the college town of Carrollton. “Cow Hill” was established in the 1870s on the fertile prairies between the Middle and South Sulphur rivers, and was named the “Bois d’Arc Capital of Texas” because of its location in the middle of a thick grove of those trees. Here you can reserve B&B accommodations, mosey around the square for shops and antiques, and play some golf on their course that overlooks nearby Cooper Lake.

When you’re in Carrollton you’re in the heart of DFW, so you have every option under the sun for food, drink and entertainment. However, old downtown Carrollton is worth a stroll, with nice retail stores and a restaurant worth trying, the Cafe on the Square (972-446-7936). Also find the 1846 Union Baptist Church, the first in Dallas County.
