Coppell
Elevation : 519
Population : 35,958
Another of the DFW area’s soccer mom havens, Coppell houses
those who’ve proved their mettle on the way to middle management.
Here in this extreme northwest corner of Dallas County, bordered
by Irving, Grapevine, and Carrollton, the Elm Fork of the Trinity
River sucks water in from Grapevine and Denton Creeks, creating
some interesting terrain for golf. History-wise, manly Sam Houston
and his Republic of Texas troops camped out on Grapevine Creek during
important Indian negotiations that secured their aid to defend against
attacks by Mexican troops.

Notes
The Coppell Deli (555-555-5555) is a landmark
old grocery-cafe type of place that’s famous for hosting the
Dallas Cowboys, whose work outfacility at Valley Ranch is nearby.
Some of the sandwiches are named after former players like Nate
Newton, who used to eat several of the triple-decker breakfast sandwiches
crammed with eggs, bacon, cheese, sausage, more eggs, and such.
The place is covered with photos of Cowboys, and the burgers are
some of the best around. The Dairy Queen here received
national attention when the Dallas Mavericks’ owner volunteered
as a manager one day in 2002. |
