Crandall began with the railroad in 1880, and quickly became a shipping point for area farmers. Located a stone’s throw southeast of Dallas on US 175, this little town is well on its way to becoming one of the many commuter communities of Big D. In fact, since it’s only a 15-minute drive from downtown Dallas if you’re moving well, 90% of the business at the Crandall’s Creekview Golf Club comes from Dallasites who enjoy the small-town friendliness combined with good golf for the right price.

This one is a day trip from Dallas, or one you’ll hit in the morning on your way out of town. Before you head down the road, grab a meal and an ice-cold bottle of beer at the authentic Cotton Gin Restaurant and Club (972-427-3883), where the famous hickory mushroom burger is a tough choice over the crispy chicken-fried steak.
