Dallas Golf Courses :
Notes
Texas’ most modern and metropolitan city offers anything
and everything for the traveling golfer. When planning a trip to
Big D, it’s wise to pay attention to where you’ll be
playing, both in and around the city, and choose a lodging option
with convenient access for hauling ass to any part of the metroplex.
Downtown accommodations put you near the Main Street District,
Deep Ellum, the West End Historic District,
and McKinney-Uptown-West Village areas, each of
which offers it’s own unique slice of Dallas, and make it
relatively easy to hop on I-30, I-35, or the Dallas Tollway to head
any direction quickly. Also nearby is Lower Greenville,
with it’s 1920s atmosphere and funky establishments, and the
Knox-Henderson area, a diverse 2-mile swath loaded with
shopping and restaurants. High-toned Highland Park and its famous
Highland Park Village are also just short drive
north of downtown.
Most don’t know that Dallas boasts more restaurants per capita
than New York City (over 7,000), but especially for the golfer we’ll
go against our non-chain tendency and recommend one of the city’s
three Hooter’s establishments, always a welcome
destination for the worn-down, sun-burnt, beer-buzzed golfer. For
the upscale, put the venerable Bob’s Steak & Chop
House (214-528-9446) on your list for high-dollar beef,
wine, cigars, and socializing. On McKinney, the preferable seafood
place is the S&D Oyster Bar (555-555-5555),
probably one of the best classy-casual establishments where they
serve the coldest Heineken on tap in the world to go with their
outstanding baked redfish. The best Italian food in town is Café
Italia (555-555-5555) on Lover’s Lane, and the scene
is just right. Also on Lover’s track down the Dallas institution
of Rafa’s (555-555-5555), a quaint little
Mexican café with a great bar for sports watching. Other
nearby watering holes are the Inwood Tavern (555-555-5555)
and Time Out Tavern (555-555-5555), which round
out the eclectic Lovers-Inwood intersection nicely.
For live music consider the ultra cowboy-funky casual Adair’s
(555-555-5555) for late afternoons before you hit the bigger clubs
around Deep Ellum. At the edge of the Ellum is the historic and
well worthwhile Son’s of Hermann Hall (555-555-5555),
where you can partake of cheap cold beers and shuffleboard or pool
downstairs before stumbling up to the dance floor above.
Often frowned upon but sometimes the secret pleasure of the traveling
hack, Dallas has a fine assortment of men’s clubs, otherwise
known as ‘jugs joints’. Hit the east-west routed Northwest
Hwy. on the western edge of town for The Men’s Club
(555-555-5555), The Lodge (555-555-5555), and many
others in between.
