Denton Country Club
The golf : DCC opened in 1922, when members transformed
their cow pasture into a 9-hole golf course with sand greens. The
club closed during the Depression, then again during World War II,
but eventually reopened and began a long process of improvements.
Eventually the greens were replaced with grass and the club added
an additional nine holes. In the 1980s, Dick Nugent came in to further
modernize the old course.
Of the notable holes, No. 7 stands out as the most challenging–a
slight dogleg left with water all over the place. No. 13 has water
as well, and players must carry the hazards twice on their way to
the green. In addition to the creek that slices across the fairway,
a bunker resides in the middle to create more havoc. Some say that
No. 18 is the signature–it goes 300 yards from the tips, yet
it’s all uphill into an elevated green.
