Denton
Elevation : 620
Population : 76,933
Denton is starting to get sucked in by the sprawl of DFW. Once
its own unique town, now it’s hard to tell you’ve left
Dallas when you head north on I-35. To see the city you have to
venture off the highway into the streets of old Denton. Named after
pioneer barrister and preacher John B. Denton, whose grave is on
the stately Denton County Courthouse lawn, the town dates back to
the 1850s when it became the seat of Denton County. Two universities
call Denton home: the University of North Texas, home of the fighting
mean green Eagles, and the largest college in the nation for women,
Texas Woman’s University.

Notes
Around Denton’s town square you’ll find a few
interesting lunch options–Ruby’s Diner
(555-555-5555) and The Loophole (555-555-5555)
are where the locals eat. The Oak-Hickory Historic District
displays some impressive Victorian homes and cottages, so take a
look before heading out to the sticks and the town of Ponder, TX.
If that happens to occur during the mid-afternoon hours after a
morning round, head west to nearby Ponder, TX and the Ponder
Boot Company. You’ll be served well by an investment
in cowboy footwear before moseying to Ranchman’s Cafe
(940-479-2221), also known as The Ponder Steakhouse, where high-toned
maidens like Cindy Crawford have partaken in sirloin and live bluegrass
music in this rustic setting. Don’t forget to bring your own
beer |
