Mountain Valley, which opened in the 1960s, is laid out around two good-sized lakes, with a creek that rolls through the course and comes into play on four holes. Several of the tees are elevated, and while there are no sand bunkers, the course is spotted with grass bunkers that get in the way. The average-sized greens are well sloped and fast. Three of the tee boxes are elevated, and many of the fairways have dogleg configurations.
No. 3 is the most difficult hole on the front, a 523-yard par 5. On the back, No. 11 also measures well over 500 yards, and No. 18 is known as the signature, a long par 3 over a lake.

Other notes: The club doesn’t have a formal driving range, but there’s a warm-up area adequate for short irons only.

Getting there : Take 174 through Burleson. When you get to Joshua, look for the rock Mountain Valley Country Club Estates entrance. Turn left there and find the course.

This is a very nice course. With over 50 years history and still plays very nice. No bunkers but has native grass areas that are one stroke penalty if your ball is hit there. Greens are very good and hold and putt excellent. This course is best kept secret in the johnson county!

This is an old school course. New owner has done many improvements. Really affordable daily rate plus various affordable passes and different membership types.

I live in Joshua and have played numerous courses around the area. I enjoy municipal courses, but tried the Mountain Valley course for the first time and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The course layout at first seems pretty easy, however; the course is demanding and really forces you to select clubs. There are only three par 5’s on the course and all par 3’s are over 150 from the whites (longest 195). Scoring can be difficult, but if you bring your game then you’ll enjoy the place.

The course needs some love, but overall for a course built in the 60’s it’s in good shape. I do want to point out this is a semi-private club, but they do allow guest to play anytime. I’m going to join the club in the summary because their rates for membership dues is fantastic compared to other places.

If you’re in the area try it out, good place.

The guy who works the pro shop at nights is the biggest jerk I've ever met. He doesn't say anything when you walk in and I asked him the price and he seems put out by it. I gave him my discover card and instead of just telling me they don't take discover he holds the card out in front of him and just looks at me. I then asked him a question about the carts and he mumbled his response. I asked him to repeat it and he says, were you not listening! It hasn't just been one time this has happened it's every time. I will now drive somewhere else just to avoid this guy.

Once you get out of the shop the course is nice, but takes a few holes to calm down after dealing with this guy.
