Rockwall
Elevation : 596
Population : 15,668
Rockwall is the seat of Texas’ smallest county, located barely
east of Dallas on the other side of Lake Ray Hubbard. In 1852 geologists
discovered an impressive subterranean rock wall, up to 18 inches
thick and stretching for over 4 miles, giving the town its name.
A growing, bustling town populated by Dallas professionals, Rockwall
has a golf scene that includes an older Ralph Plummer-designed country
club and two new facilities: the much-bragged-about Buffalo Creek
and a 9-hole par 3 known as the A-1 Golf Center.

Whittle Development has entertained the idea of expanding with another
18-hole course in the residential community on Lake Ray Hubbard. The
course would be located on 560 acres 4 miles south of the existing
course. Since the City of Dallas owns the water rights to Lake Ray
Hubbard, water issues could impede this addition. Travis Ranch Lazarus
Property Corporation has completed the land purchase for this 2,400-acre
residential development, which will include a links-style golf course
nestled in a 470- acre floodplain. Construction is a ways out, but
Crenshaw, D.A. Weibring, and ClubCorp design officials have expressed
interest in the project Notes
Besides the chains, Soul Man’s BB
(555-555-5555) on I-30 is the place to order a smooth sliced beef
sandwich for lunch before the round. After the round, chips and
queso goes well with frosty lime-quenched Corona at El Trevino’s
(555-555-5555). Head to Dallas for the night, but if you must, there
is a Holiday Inn Express (972-722-3265) in Rockwall.
