Part of a large tree farm whose crop is irrigated by two lakes, Twin Lakes is one of the best values in the state. An outstanding, challenging track, despite the fact that it was designed by the landowner, the course is not crowded and the golf is spectacular. You’ll notice how around half the holes play through the East Texas pines, while the other half play over and around the lakes. The course is long at 7,100 yards from the tips, and over 6,600 from the men’s tees. Even the short holes are difficult, with strategically placed bunkers and difficult pin placements.

One of these is No. 9, perhaps one of the most difficult par 3s in the state. It rests along the lake with a huge tree to the left of the green that sucks in anything on that side. The wind howls off the lake and your subconscious tells you to aim right because of the tree. Anything less than perfect will find the water on the right. Less confident golfers sometimes lay up with a wedge, hoping to get their chip close enough for a one-putt. Considering the penalties that are possible on this hole, this isn’t always a dumb move.

Getting there : From Dallas take I-20 east to Canton. Exit Hwy. 19 and drive south through town. The course is 8.5 miles farther on the east side of the highway.

Great golfing here, hard enough for the best players and fun enough for the rest. The staff is very friendly and the service is good. It might have some of the best views in east Texas.Played on a Sunday afternoon in perfect weather.

Really beautiful course at a great price. Lots of carries over water make it difficult but still fair and very fun! Fairways are generous but many have very well placed bunkers that can grab a tee shot that isn't well placed. The trees are all well manicured and the rough is low so if you hit into the woods you still have a chance to play out.
