Nine-hole Wildcat Golf Course (formerly known as Meadowbrook Country Club) serves up fairways lined with east Texas pines and a creek that impacts play on six of the nine holes. You will not be able to let it loose here, but instead will be thinking strategically about where you need to place the shot. Approaches are tricky because the greens are small and elevated. Bring a solid, short game to get up and down for par.
No. 1 plays only 300 yards, and there are a few other short holes. The most difficult is No. 7, a 218-yard par 3 that plays as a par 4 for the ladies. As always, two sets of tees offer an 18-hole round, and you can play all day for one green fee.
Getting there : From Tyler, take Hwy. 155 south for 40 miles. Take Loop 256 and turn north on Link St., then turn right on Country Club Rd.
