This is an 18-hole daily fee championship golf course developed by Lytle Creek Golf Links, a company headed by Abilene resident and full-time Senior PGA player Charles Coody. Mr. Coody and Williams, Gill and Associates designed the par 71, 7,000-yard course, which opened in November of 1999 and features bent-grass greens and Tifway (419) hybrid bermuda grass fairways, roughs, and tees.. Every June the course hosts the Diamondback SBC Charity Classic, a Senior PGA Tour pro-am.
Lytle Creek meanders throughout the site and comes into play on seven of the holes. Three additional lakes were also built on the site. Naturally occurring rock outcroppings on the site and native vegetation in the rough provide the course with unique character. Multiple tee locations on each hole allow golfers of all abilities to play a challenging and enjoyable round.

- Well maintained & challenging public course with reasonable rates—glad that it’s Abilene!When my family comes to town this is where they want to play. Unique, challenging, and fun with great people running the place. Charles Coody is a class act, a true gentleman. The course is a great testimony to his love for golf and this community.Best course in West Texas. Layout takes great advantage of terrain. Some magical golfing holes. Tough but fair. Greens are large and putt true. We like to drive from Austin and Dallas for a golfing weekend at Diamondback. Another plus is you will likely see Masters' champ Charles Coody. Only disappointment is that I still haven't encountered a diamondback rattlesnake!!
Can't wait to get back to Abilene to play Diamondback!Fun course to play in excellent condition, Friendly staff and other players I met too. Rental Clubs excellent. Great course for the price. In the Northeast this course would cost $100.00 to play. Did not cost that including the club rentals. Cannot wait to go back again on my next trip to Abilene
