It's awful!!
The greens were the worst I've ever seen a course. Had to put through water puddles from them irrigating so much and the greens weren't green more of a brown or sand color. More like the greens had dirt and sand so bad because they were burnt up. Ball marks everywhere it was like putting on a plinko board. The paths are non existent and range is a cow pasture. Never saw a bunker with sand they were all grass about 10 inches tall. Stay away if you're an avid golfer but if it's your first time then hack away.
Good Greens
The course was in pretty good shape considering the harsh winter we have experienced. The greens rolled pretty smoothly and the fairways were thick and should be in good shape once they green up. I enjoyed the course once again and look forward to playing again.
Fairways Great, Greens not so Much
NC has made great progress from a year ago. The fairways were in the best shape ever. Bunkers are no longer waste areas, but can be a problem with certain lies. Greens need
attention, most of them had damage (bare*) over 1/4 to 1/3 of the total area. Where they were undamaged, rolled true and mostly slower than in years past. Still a great layout for the $$.
Carts/Greens/Clubhouse
As with the title of the review all of the above are terrible. Carts barely ran, had plugs in the tires, and took me three carts to find one that started. If one didn't start the other was missing scorecard holder other another piece. Clubhouse is a construction style trailer with one restroom, no grill. You can buy a candy bar or bottled drink and that's it. All bunkers are grown in and played as waste bunkers. The greens are gone very major issues with dead and bare greens, some were down to the dirt. This course needs new management, friendlier staff for sure, new greens, carts, and club house. Staff seems that they could care less if you are there or not. They have attitudes of they are a private exclusive club which is the complete opposite. Played private clubs who's staffed had better attitudes. Wouldn't never recommend this course until all of this is fixed.
Great value and an enjoyable venue.
I like the layout of this track. It has homes on the front nine but the back has the feel of being out in the country and is usually not crowded at all. They have bent grass greens and in the past they have been fantastic. 9-29-13 many of the greens were in trouble...spotty. Some very much so. I think they will be back this fall as they seem to have good soil to support them and it HAS been a VERY dry summer. The cart paths definitely need improvements. I cannot complain though because through Golf Now's HOT DEAL I played for $4.99 !!
Price was only good thing about course
Greens were in very poor condition. Practice green was completely unusable. Overall course condition was very poor
Bad Shape
This course had lost most of its greens. Drove an hour out of town, hoping for a hidden gem, and was very disappointed. Fun layout, bad execution.
Good price for course
The special rate was good for course. Would not pay their regular rate. Only worth on weekends 30 to 35.00 range including cart fee. A plus is there yardage book. Down side if I did not print off my confirmation would have had to pay again.
Needs to be maintained better ,fairway grass was high, rough was really high
I really liked the course , it just needs to be maintained better ,lost 3 balls due to high grass !
Worth the drive. Good deal for the money
Nice layout. Good length. Wish it was closer but worth the drive. Carts weren't great. No frills clubhouse. I will play it again though. Challenging. Pleasant surpise after I got on the course. Pretty well maintained for Summer.
Fun Layout and Nice Greens
This is my second time making the drive up to Northern Challenge. This course has an interesting layout with a variety of different types of holes. The greens were in great shape, the fairways were rough in patches and good in others, the rough was tall and an actual penalty. I really don't have a problem with long rough since it is supposed to be some kind of penalty, not just a barren & unmaintained area like at some courses. All traps had grass growing in them and they were played as waste bunkers, again, no biggie. Be prepared for the wind to play a role. Overall I enjoyed the round even with some rough conditions here and there.
