After operating as a private club for many years, this club changed ownership in 1999 and opened for public play after an extensive renovation. Despite the fact that it rolls through a housing development, the majestic trees of East Lake Houston help create a secluded feel.
Out-of-bounds is prominent, and the tight fairways and 6,900-yard length dictate long, straight drives for success. Most of the greens are small and surrounded by bunkers.
The 190-yard No. 7 is a nice hole that plays a bit longer because it's into an elevated green. No. 18 is the signature-with water in play off the tee, the approach is into an island green.
Other notes: The course was once a stop on the LPGA Tour. The facility is adding nine holes that are currently under construction.
Getting there : From Hwy. 90 east, exit FM 2100 and head north. Go through Crosby and turn left on Diamondhead Blvd. Look for the signs to the course.
