Galveston Municipal Golf Course

The golf : Galveston residents finally got their municipal championship layout after years of bureaucratic wrangling. The course finally opened in 1974 after the city supposedly spent $1.8 million to build a facility that should have cost more in the realm of $400,000.
It was worth it, though, to the avid golfer, since this Carlton Gipson-redesigned track is one of the most difficult tracks in Texas, universally considered one of the top five municipals in the state. The Gulf winds pound the course and water comes into play on every hole. Even from the regular tees the route rolls 6,739 yards, so short knockers are truly at a disadvantage.
