Bear Creek Golf World
The golf : The flood plane of Addicks Reservoir hosts
the 54-hole Bear Creek Golf World, a facility that is symbolic of Houston's
golf boom 25 years ago. Long-time Houston pro Dick Forester headed the
project in an attempt to capitalize on Houston's growing need for public
golf facilities.
The original Presidents Course features par 4s around 350 yards
and several short par 5s in the 470-yard range. Of the three courses,
this is the only one without water, and is much more hacker-friendly than
the Masters.
The Masters Course provides the best challenge for the single-digit
handicapper. Measuring over 7,100 yards from the tips, its length and
narrow fairways demand long, accurate golf shots. Nos. 9 and 18 are indicative
of the design-both are long par 4s that route back to the golf shop.
The Challenger Course is the easiest of the three and recommended
for beginners.
Other notes: The greens and tees were renovated in the early 1990s after
American Golf bought the facility.
