Redstone Golf Course
The golf : Located on the site of the former George
Fazio-designed El Dorado Country Club, Redstone will serve as the new
home of the Shell Houston Open through 2012, as well as the centerpiece
for the Fall Creek residential development. The facility will include
a hotel and conference center and serve as the home for the Houston Golf
Association.
Slated as the longest course in the state (7,500 yards), the course was
designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, who used four of El Dorado's
holes. Trees are everywhere, so much so that the design is void of fairway
bunkers-a particularly unusual feature for a PGA caliber course.
Future plans include an addition 18 holes designed by Rees Jones and routed
around Greens Bayou (opening 2005), as well as a 9-hole par 3 course.
The details : Hwy 59 at Beltway, Houston, TX 77030
- 2003. Peter Jacobsen and Jim. Hardy. 7,250 yards. Price - $$$$.
Getting there : From downtown Houston follow 59 North
to Beltway 8 East. Find the Fall Creek subdivision about 1.5 miles from
59 and turn right on Mesa Dr. Turn left on Fall Creek Bend through the
subdivision and follow the signs.
