Editor's Note: El Dorado CC has been closed. The new Redstone Golf Club has been built on El Dorado's site.
El Dorado is an older Houston course, built in 1964 on the Ginther family's homestead dating back to the turn of the century. Big names George Fazio and Jay Riviere collaborated on the design, which is known for its long, skinny fairways and tiny, fast greens.
The duo created a circular route with parallel fairways. The course rolls to clockwise on the front, then turns back to the left for the second nine.
No. 5 is the longest of several mammoth par 4s on the front. This tough hole plays 474 yards and doglegs left, featuring a long approach into a green fronted by a bunker.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 north, take the Beltway 8 exit and turn right. The course is 1.5 miles down the road, and the entrance is on the right side.
