In spite of common belief that this is a Pete Dye design, Roy Dye was selected as the man to design Waterwood's course. The railroad ties and bulkhead water hazards are here, as are the tight fairways, long carries over water, and small greens. Every hole is ruthless, and the course rating ranks Waterwood as one of the 50 most difficult courses in the nation. In fact, the PGA Tour Q-School tourney has been held here three times
The 14th hole overlooks Lake Livingston and is nicknamed "The Cliffs." At 225 yards you'll feel like you're hitting over the entire lake, which isn't the mental imagery you need when you're getting ready to fire a 3 wood or driver into a green that has virtually no bail-out area.
Getting there : From I-45 in Huntsville, take Hwy. 190 east for 18 miles to Waterwood Pkwy. Next drive 7 miles north, crossing FM 980 to the clubhouse.
