Great course
One of the best available on Golf Now. Go play this one today.
Awesome greens
The Falls is a place I'd recommend playing. It's in the middle of no where, which I love. The greens are in great shape. The only bad thing that I could find would be that, in some spots, if you miss the fairway the ground is very sandy like there isn't a bottom to it, which makes it hard to play out of. Overall this is a great place to play.
Would play it again and again
Always great experience, greens are great with pin locations always difficult to read.
The course was in great shape and the greens where fast
The course i beautiful and has a very challenging layout. Your surrounded by beautiful scenery and the occasional wild animal. I would go back tomorrow.
Wonderful course
Great golf course, out in the woods not many houses around the course. Very nice playing out in nature.
Good value
The course was in excellent shape. The greens were plush. I will recommend playing a round on Monday for the out of the world experience.
The Falls
Course was in fantastic shape. Greens were perfect, but very fast. Lots of great scenery.
2nd time around
Excellent tee box, didn't need a stick dynomite or a hammer to get the tee placed. Best greens I have ever played. Fairways were incredibly green everywhere.
Nothing to complain about except the 1 hour and 50 minute ride from Austin to get there.
New 6th green is very nice
Great course. Nice rework of driving range and 6th green. Other expensive projects still pending. need to level out tee boxes and fix hazardous wash outs from retaining walls. Worth the drive when the price is right.
Great Course!!! Best public course in Texas !
This is a remote course but really the best looking course in Texas !!!! Great condition, a lot of read on the greens.... Bring your A Game, but worth the drive!
Disappointed
Facilities run down from outside. Staff did not seem to like we had bought the tee times online. They charged us $10 plus tax for range balls, each! When we got to range, balls are set out and available. Don't fall for that trick and just go to the range if you play but many options better between Houston and there.
Overrated
Not worth the drive from Houston. Need info on tee not apparent visually. Picture of hole on scorecard or note of distance to end of fairway or hazard. Good shots should not be penalized.
Great layout
Although somewhat difficult to find and get to, the course layout is quite challenging. The course was in good shape and the greens were running fast. A couple of sand traps needed a little more attention and we had to pay a temporary green on hole #6 which was a shame because the design of that hole was really great but it should open soon according to the maintenance crew we spoke with. All in all this was a lot of fun to play and we will go back.
Greens are hurting
Played this course many times and usually love it. However this time that wasn't the case. The greens are in pretty bad shape, including one hole where the green is totally closed and they have a makeshift temporary green right in the fairway! Also, the desk guy was somewhat rude, wanting to charge for another cart even though the course was mostly empty, range balls are no longer included, and he claimed the course doesn't pocket a dime from Golfnow reservations! So they just donate completely free rounds to Golfnow? Really? It will be awhile before we return to this course again.
Always a treat
New Ulm isn't exactly the most convenient place on the planet, unless you live there. Because of that - and the 1 3/4 hour drive each way, I only play The Falls once every few years. I'll make sure the weather forecast is decent AND that the area isn't in the middle of a drought or flood. The course always looks different to me, but I always enjoy it. One of their signature holes is being revamped and played as a temporary green. But still it was enjoyable and certainly well worth the GolfNow discounted price. I played a Wednesday afternoon and was unimpeded. I came across only a twosome that let me play through, and finished 18 holes in UNDER 3 hours. I'm sure weekend play is much different. But the bottom line is the course is nice. It's taken me many years too get past the fact The Falls changed from an isolated resort to a community with houses, but after witnessing what the norm is around the Houston area, the houses there are just fine. And I still saw a bunch of deer crossing one of the fairways. If you are a high-handicapper, I suggest taking a supply of balls along. The greens are in very good shape, but they are consistently a tough read. For those coming from the east (I-10) to New Ulm, I STRONGLY suggest taking the 36/Sealy route as opposed to the Columbus exit/route. I mentioned the poor signage I experienced on the way to the course to the guy in the pro shop and he advised me to go back the 36/Sealy route. Much easier on the constitution. About the same in time from Houston. For those used to decent-to-nice 19th holes, this doesn't have one. There's a very convenient halfway house for simple food & beverage, but keep your expectations low.
First time, first impressions
It was the first time to play the course. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We got rained out on the sixth hole, but we got a rain check for a full round. Can't wait to play the entire course!! Thanks Steve!!
Tests your skills in all areas!
What a fun course and challenging too! Beautiful shape and considering the lack of rain in very green on tees, greens, and fairways. Greens are fast and true.
They need some rain
They need some rain or need to water the fairways a little more.
A great course once was
Had not played the course in over 15 years and it was a shock to drive up and see an old and run down clubhouse/pro shop and banquet hall. Overall course was in decent shape, greens were pretty quick. Played on Monday morning and nobody was on the course, maybe 10 cars in the parking lot. Would not make the drive again from Houston but if you have less than 30 miles to drive it may be worth the trip. This used to be a premier Texas course but you can see the struggle's they have endured with the resort not living up to it's potential and the many home lots still for sale. Need's a lot of tree trimming and removal of dead tree's.
Enjoyable Day
This a very nice course, quiet. They are rebuilding one green but other wise course was in great shape. The small greens are good but a little slow.
The staff was very friendly but $10 for all day use of the range for only hitting a few balls was a bit steep.
I hope to go back
