Employees of the Humble Oil Company (now Exxon) built Baywood in 1946. Surprisingly for a course constructed by untrained architects, it has become a Southeast Houston golf institution. Accuracy is required because some of the fairways are narrow with sharp doglegs. Water hazards come into play on seven holes.
No. 4 requires an accurate long iron off the tee into the dogleg right. Because of a creek on the left and the corner of the dogleg on the right, an iron is a smart play on No. 5. No. 10 is a long par 4 with out of bounds on the left and trees on the right.
Getting there : From I-45 south, take the Fuqua St. exit to Beltway 8. Turn left on Beltway 8 and drive to Genoa Red Bluff Rd. Turn right, drive 5 miles to the course, then look for the entrance on the right side of the road.
