Building on of the world's most famous horse farms, the Lazy C Ranch, architect Carlton Gipson used the scenic natural setting in conjunction with eight man-made lakes to create an impressive 27-hole golf course. In all, 17 of the 27 holes have water in play, and the ambiance of the old ranch is still in place-the nines are named Stables, Barn, and Ranch. The main ranch house became the restaurant and the foreman's house now serves as the pro shop.
Most of the courses run through an old pecan orchard and feature tight fairways. However, the Range nine is more open and resembles a links-style layout.
The most challenging hole on the course is the Barn's last 460-yard par 4. This mean hole is not only worthy of par 5 status, but has water in play along the right side of the fairway.
Getting there : From I-10 west, turn left onto Hwy. 6 and drive 2 miles to Westheimer Rd. Turn right, then turn left on FM 1464. The course is on the right 6.5 miles down the road.
