Set on a desolate stretch of Highway 277 between Eagle Pass and Laredo, this area grew in the late 1800s when cattle ranching prospered. With the line of springs that named the town, combined with good soil and a long growing season, farming is what spurs the economy here in Carrizo Springs.

Downtown Carrizo Springs is colorful and festive, and you'll find a few unique shops along the sidewalks. Mi Casa Steak House (830-876-3778) is a local favorite. Southeast on US 83 is the town of Catarina and the historic Catarina Hotel (830-999-3677). This 100-year-old building was key during the town's growth, and housed a cafe and bank in the bottom of the building. You can still grab a bite at the cafe today.
