Editor's Note: Course closed for business.
Located in the rolling hills of a former ranch only 25 miles east of San Antonio and previously named Las Palomas, Quail Run is a links-style course built in 1997. Bert Buehler laid the course out with minimal trees, rolling fairways, undulating greens, bunkers, and water hazards, which all combine to make this one of the more difficult courses in the area. It plays long because of the wind (over 7,000 from the tips).
The signature hole is the 210-yard par 3 No. 16, which plays downhill to a two-tiered green that is protected by bunkers. Despite the length, avoid driver off the tee because the rough is coastal and averages about 4-6 inches.
Getting there : Take Hwy 87 east for 30 miles to FM 539. Drive north 5 miles to the course, which is on the right side of the road.
