Rockport dates back to the Civil War era, where it was established as
a shipping point and slaughterhouse town. Thirty miles northeast of Corpus
Christi, the Rockport-Fulton area sports a laid-back demeanor characterized
by seafood vendors, wooden fishing piers, quaint shops, restaurants, and
art galleries that boast the works of the largest per-capita artist's
colony in the state.
