The courses are not difficult and the atmosphere is usually very casual, allowing average hacks the chance to relax and have fun, one of the best ways to get your swing in a groove.

Alamo Golf Center is the perfect example of such a place. A full-service practice facility with an attached par 65 executive course, this peaceful little course is a great way to hone in your irons and work on your up-and-downs. Alamo's layout features trees, ponds, and greens that are just challenging enough to keep it interesting, but easy enough to build your confidence.

Hole 15 is one of the better tests, a 321-yard, par 4 that features a pond resting behind the green.

Getting there : From I-10, take the Prue Road exit and turn left. When you come to Babcock, turn left again, then turn right on Pembroke Lane. The entrance is just down the road off of Rochelle.
