This Air Force course dates back to the 1950s. Joe Finger took over the design duties from Ralph Plummer, who was supposedly tired of dealing with the military red tape during construction. Their collaboration resulted in a long, flat course that is known for its wide fairways and small, elevated greens. Bunkers are in play, and a few water hazards dot the design, but they are not prominent features.
You'll sense the length on the par 3s, since two are over 200 yards, and the others play over 180. The par 5s are long as well, averaging 550 yards in length. No. 5 is notable because the approach is surrounded by water, and No. 12 is considered the toughest because of its long, 589-yard dogleg that turns sharply off the tee.
Getting there : From I-35 north, turn right on Loop 1604. When you come to FM 78, turn left (east), and the road will take you to the main gate.
