The Republic is new and viewed as the perfect "tweener" course, since it's considered a fair-priced, quality alternative to the high-priced $100 layouts and the super-cheap, overcrowded munis. With wide fairways and huge greens, hackers can get their kicks and have the chance for decent round on this 7,007-yard, par 71 layout, which plays to a manageable 6,622 or 6,147 yards from the forward tees.
The design features many risk-reward shots over ravines and water hazards, tough par 3s, and a few drive-able par 4s. From the tips, two of the par 3s play 220-yards-plus, including the 243-yard No. 17.
Getting there : On S.E. Military Drive bounded by South I-410 and W.W. White. Take Highway 281 (same road as I-37) south from downtown and look for the Brooks AFB sign. Get off at the second exit onto SE Military Drive. The course is about a mile north on your right.
