Marfa Municipal Golf Course

Playing the highest course in Texas is a special experience. Wide-open, firm fairways that enhance roll, shots that traveling farther because of the altitude, and some of the best greens you'll ever play on…this course is a must-play if you're traveling in this remote region. While we didn't have time to walk the course, we teed off before 9 a.m. and finished our round in under an hour.
In terms of hazards, water comes into play on two of the nine holes, and the common Bermuda rough can be thick in the summer. There are not a ton of trees, but what's there is mature and there seem to be just enough to get in the way if you stray from the middle of the fairway.
One word of caution: Don't let the bitter attitude of the course manager negatively affect your experience or impressions of this golf course. Perhaps it was because we were not locals, or caught him too early on a bad day, but we were surprised by his lack of small-town hospitality-usually a given in this part of the world.
Getting there : Turn right (north) off of Hwy. 90 at the traffic light in Marfa. A few blocks down past the post office find FM 1112, then turn right. Drive 2 miles east and wind your way back to the course.
