Golf at Northcliffe
We play this course a couple of times a week and ever so slightly they're making improvements. The sand traps and greens need attention and if they ever improve it will make this course more enjoyable. As always the staff goes out of their way to take care of the golfers.
Not worth the bother
I've played this course off and on since 1998 and won't be returning any time soon. All 18 greens are despicable to the point where calling them a 'green' isn't appropriate. Tee-boxes are barren, pot-holed, and un-even. Fairways are disappointing; dry cracked soil, rolling pot-holes, un-kept in spots and barren in others. "Traps" have more weeds than sand in them and those with no weeds are like bricks.
TERRIBLE
The course is total TERRIBLE!!! i hate saying it because i have played this course in the past and really liked. there is no grass, the greens have no grass and the sand traps are full of grass. they should close this course and just fix it
Good Value Course
For what we paid, in my opinion, I got what I paid for. It's 18 holes, they have plenty of water stations, the course is not extremely difficult and it's fun to play. I wasn't too crazy about some of the sod that was used for tee boxes and parts of the fairways (St. Augustine) but for the most part, the greens were in decent shape. I'm sure this course was a lot better back in it's hay day.
Don't take the bait.
The course is in horrible condition. Cannot tell rough from fairway from green. Which was all okay with us because it was very cheap. Until, we got to hole 10. The pace of play for us was very fast. When we got to hole 10, there was a 6 person party playing. No idea where they cam from. They took their sweet time and and slowed it down to a halt. The pro shop attendant was awesome. Fave me out money back. We will not go back.
Needs Some Work
The course hasn't been taken care of in the past but it is showing improvements. More attention is being paid to the fairways and greens and hopefully the sand bunkers will be reworked soon. I was told there is a new owner and I hope he can improve the course.
On the back nine we had three groups of kids jump in front of us and I think they were taking a golf class. We had to skip one hole to get around them and then we found a tournament teeing off on holes 16, 17, and 18. Since there were two groups on each hole we quit instead of enduring a lengthy delay.
Straight fairways, a lot of undulations, good condition of front nines but poor back nines
I played 18 holes with my friends starting at Wednesday noon. Fairways are pretty straight. I remembered the 6th is challenging because of the big pond in front of and at the left of the green. The course is not in good condition. I may say fair condition instead. The greens of the last a few holes are pretty bad and unable to put. But I only paid $16.
Northcliff golf course
For the money, can't really ask for anything more than that.
Fun course to play overall,a good place to learn the game and polish your skills
Worst course ever
If you like 1-2 foot weeds in the fairway and "greens" made of crab grass, johnson grass, and st augustine grass, with a few patches of hard dirt... you will like this course.
You would have to pay me to go back and play!!!!!!
OMG
Don't waste your time
I quit after nine holes. The course is in horrible condtion.
Nice little course that needs a lot of work
The starter told us the foreign owners had been siphoning all the cash out of the course for years, but that recently changed and things are beginning to improve. They have a long way to go. Greens are not at all smooth and have a lot of bare patches, so it's nearly impossible to putt in a straight line and/or read the break accurately. Fairways are likewise patchy with huge clumps of crabgrass everywhere. Pace of play was so slow on a Saturday we had to wait 3-5 minutes after nearly every shot: off the tee, on the fairway and to the green. The layout has several fairways running parallel in opposite directions, so we also had to wait for golfers from other groups who'd hit into our fairway. Took about 5 hours to play 18 holes. Never saw a ranger the entire day, which might appeal to players who don't mind a longer round. The club house has a bar/cafe, which wasn't open over lunch on a Sat. so we had to settle for self-serve hot dogs as there didn't appear to be any other food options. The course did provide a beverage cart that we saw 2-3 times over the course of 5 hours. They also had water every 3-4 holes and restrooms on both front and back nines. Got a great deal on the green fees through Golfnow, so felt the value for what we paid was good. All in all, it is a nice little course that has a lot of potential but is currently in rough shape.
Do not book!
This will be the last time that I ever play this course! The course conditions are horrible. The first time that I played this cours there were cracks in the ground that would eat your ball. We thought that was due to a Texas drought and decided to give this course another chance. Big mistake!! After our first experience I didn't expect it to get worse. The fairway rough and greens all seem to be the same. There was actually more sand on the greens than in the traps. Overall if I could give this course zero stars I would. $32 for a round was cheap and we didn't get what we paid for. The cart we were given broke down due to corrosion eating through our main powerline. Negligence seems to be the mission statement of this course!
Friday outing
The course definitely needs some work, primarily the greens and sand bunkers. They have gotten rid of a lot of the fire ants and the mowing of the roughs has improved. I understand they have a new owner and with time hopefully he can bring the course back.
The course of play was going well until a foursome, two men and two women, cut in front of us on hole number 10. We ended up skipping a hole to get around them.
Course Not Playable
We played this course a few months ago and the greens were dry, hard, and some did not have much grass on them. We decided to try again thinking that with all the rain we have had over the past few months that the green would at least allow putting. However, the greens are terrible. They told us that they had dressed the greens but they need way more than that! They are losing most of the greens and it doesn't look like they are doing anything to fix them. It is basically like playing in a mowed field as the fairways are dry and the grass is sparse. I would not recommend playing here unless you are only interested in practicing hitting your ball. You can do that on their driving range if you want to do so. Oh, the putting green is just as bad as the rest of the course. You will not be able to putt on any green. On a good note, the people were friendly!
Needs much TLC
Course was in extremely poor condition. I used to play here weekly with my dad when I was a kid and loved this course. It was quite tragic to see it in the condition that it is in.
Northcliff
Had a great time. Nice layout but greens were rough and in need if attention. Friendly folks. Carl was up beat and assured us they are really working on the greens. Woild play here again.
Not worth it
You can regularly find deals at this course for under $25 and it still isn't worth it. Regardless of the season, the greens are the worst I've ever seen. The course was built in 1979 and it shows. The cart path and other facilities are badly in need of repair. The staff, however, are some of the friendliest people I've ever met.
How bad could be
Greens poor
