Lake Waco opened to the public in 1964, but eventually became private in 1969 after several ownership changes. The club features a quality 18-hole track that annually hosts a qualifying tournament for the Texas State Open, as well as a nice little confidence-building executive course.
The designs offer the basics, with standard-width fairways that roll to medium size greens of average speed. A few lakes come into play on both courses.
On the Main Course, the most difficult holes are Nos. 7 and 8. The first goes 603 yards and plays like 800 into the wind. No. 8 is a scenic par 3, featuring a sloped green surrounded by water and majestic trees.
Getting there : From I-35 south find Lake Shore exit, and turn west. Drive to Steinbeck Bend Rd. and turn right. When you reach Hwy. 1637, turn right and drive to Flat Rock Rd., where you’ll turn left and see the course.
