SimontonElevation : 118 Simonton is south of I-10 about 45 minutes west of Houston, and connected to the greater Houston area via FM 1093. Formerly a plantation along the Brazos River settled by James Simonton before the Civil War, it was eventually broken up and sold. The railroad came through in the 1880s. After the turn of the century, investors from Kansas bought the land to grow potatoes, and the area became one of the leading producers of potatoes in the country. Now the town awaits the continued westward sprawl of Houston. Simonton Golf Courses :Notes |
