Onion Creek Country Club

The golf : Ravaged by floods, the sometimes 27-hole birthplace of the Senior PGA Tour is currently operating with 18-holes as the renovation of the other nine moves forward toward an opening date of August 2003. When the full 27-holes are available, the clubhouse determines which 18 is in play for the day, creating a confusing possibility of combination that isn’t worth detailing.

The bottom line is that Jimmy Demaret designed the original 18-holes which hosted the original Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf from 1979 – 1990. His route features the pesky Onion Creek, which unfortunately has a tendency to swell during intense rain, often wiping out certain portions of the course. The course isn’t long, and is known as a shot-maker’s course for it’s small greens and numerous bunkers, which spot the fairways and guard the greens. Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore added the new nine in the mid 1990s, and it’s designed similarly to Demaret’s original track.
