Mexia
Elevation : 534
Population : 6,572
Pronounced Muh-HEY-uh, this former 1920s oil boom town is about
90 miles south of Dallas between I-35 and I-45, just east of Waco.
This quiet city was established in 1871and named for the family
of Mexican General Jose Antonio Mexia, who donated the townsite.
While it might be nice to dig into the community and investigate
the absorbing intellectual roots of Mexia’s most famous resident,
Anna Nicole Smith, grizzled travelers should have their priorities
straight and find fun at the Mexia’s 9-hole golf course instead.
